Premier League football betting - Aston Villa vs Sunderland
By Matt Knowles on 2010-03-24 18:45:58
Aston Villa host Sunderland today in the Premier League hoping to bounce back from their draw with  lowly Wolves at the weekend and keep themselves involved in the race for fourth place. Martin O`Neill`s team are currently seventh in the table, five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, but have a game in hand on their rivals and could still achieve the remarkable feat of Champions League football next season.
Villa are favourites for the game at 4/7 (bet £70to win £40 profit), leaving Sunderland as underdogs at 6/1. The visitors ended their run of seventeen league games without a win on the 9th and have now gone four matches unbeaten. However, these results have all come at home and there are far easier places to travel than Villa Park. The draw is available at 3/1.
A 1-0 win for Aston Villa has been made the favourite score for the game at 13/2 with Victor Chandler, with 2-0 generally available at 7/1 and a 1-1 draw at the same price. A 0-0 draw has been priced at 13/8 and a 1-0 win for Sunderland, which could spell the end of their opponents` European dreams, is priced at 14/1.
England hopeful Gabriel Agbonlahor is 4/1 to open the scoring tonight and Betfred offer 5/1 that his Norwegian team-mate John Carew does the honours. Coral offer 6/1 on Emile Heskey and Nathan Delfouneso is 7/1 with Ladbrokes. Darren Bent, who has hit twenty goals this season, is seen as Sunderland`s best chance of scoring the game`s first goal at 7/1.
Victor Chandler offer 6/2 that Villa lead tonight at both half-time and full-time and Ladbrokes are 7/2 that they win the match after drawing at half-time. The bookmakers offer 6/1 that both halves end in a draw and Sunderland are 12/1 to be winning at both the interval and the final whistle. Draw/Sunderland is available at 16/1 with Bet365.
The race for fourth place is now heating up as the season draws closer to conclusion and Aston Villa are now 6/1 to come out on top. Sunderland are in no danger of relegation but can have no greater ambition than a top-half finish this season.
