After picking up their first league win in 17 games in emphatic fashion against Bolton on Tuesday, Sunderland now face the unenviable task of taking on Manchester City, on the back of their 4-2 win over Chelsea. City are still very much in contention for a Champions League spot, and will want to keep the pressure on current front runners Tottenham with a win today.
The last time these two sides played was an epic match, with City eventually winning 4-3, after had come back from 2-0 and 3-2 down. Roque Santa Cruz scored the winner in the seventieth minute. Sunderland`s 4-0 midweek win not only signalled the end of their winless streak, but also the return of Darren Bent to top form, after his scoring form tailed off recently.
City are favourites for the game, priced at 6/5 (bet £50 to make £60 profit), while Sunderland are at 11/4. The draw is priced at 12/5.
A 1-1 draw is the favourite scoreline for the game, priced at 13/2, followed by a 1-0 win for City which is at 7/1. A 2-1 City win is at 17/2, and a goalless draw is at 9/1. A 2-0 win for City is priced at 10/1, while a 1-0 win for the Black Cats is at 12/1 with Betfair. A 2-1 win for Sunderland is at 12/1, and a 2-2 draw is at 18/1 with Skybet. A repeat 4-3 win for City is priced at 200/1.
Stan James offer a generous 13/5 on City to be winning at half time and full time, and the teams are 4/1 to be drawing at half time and full time. Draw / Man City is priced at 9/2, and Sunderland / Sunderland is at 6/1. Draw / Sunderland is at 8/1 with Ladbrokes.
Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez is favourite to open the scoring, priced at 9/2. He scored twice in City`s win over Chelsea, and 15 league goals for the season. Darren Bent is three ahead of him in the league, but is priced at 13/2. Roque Santa Cruz and Craig Bellamy are also both at 13/2, and Bent`s strike partner Kenwyne Jones is at 17/2 with Bet365. Frazier Campbell also scored against Bolton and is a 10/1 shot to score first tonight.
Following Liverpool`s loss to Wigan on Monday, City are now the favourites to claim the fourth Champions League place, priced at 11/8 with Ladbrokes. Sunderland`s win over Bolton eased their relegation fears somewhat, and they are now at 14/1 to go down.
