Premier League football - Manchester United vs Hull City
By Matt Knowles on 2010-01-23 14:00:04
Defending Premier League Champions Manchester United welcome Hull to Old Trafford today knowing that a win would see them go top of the table. United will also be aware that there are few better teams to be facing today, with Hull third from bottom and without an away win all season.
The hosts are favourites for the game at 1/6 (bet £60 to win £10 profit), leaving Hull as underdogs at 20/1. United have earned three wins in their last four league games but will be out to prove a point after losing the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final to bitter rivals Manchester City on Tuesday night. The draw is priced at 6/1 and while United have drawn the joint-fewest games in the league so far, Hull have recorded seven draws in their twenty-one matches.
The bookmakers seem to think a comfortable win for Manchester United is on the cards and have made a 2-0 win the favourite score for the match at 11/2, followed by 3-0 at 13/2 and 1-0 and 7/1. 0-0 and 1-1 are both 16/1. A shock 1-0 win for the visitors is at 50/1 while a repeat of the 3-1 win for United, like last time they met, is available at 12/1.
England star Wayne Rooney, who is rumoured to be a target for Barcelona, is 14/5 favourite to open the scoring today, with Michael Owen at 7/2 and Dimitar Berbatov at 4/1. Hull City`s best hope of scoring the first goal today is seen to be Jozy Altidore at 16/1.
Alex Ferguson`s team are 4/7 to lead at both half-time and full-time today and 9/2 to win after drawing at half-time. The bookmakers offer 12/1 that both halves and in a draw, with draw/Hull at 40/1 and Hull/Hull at 50/1.
Today`s hosts are second favourites to win the Premier League this season at 3/1 and would love to go ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea with a win today. Hull are looking to avoid relegation this season and are priced at 4/6 for the drop.
