Premier League football - Arsenal vs Bolton Wanderers
By Matt Knowles on 2010-01-20 18:45:55
Arsenal host struggling Bolton tonight in the Premier League needing a win to keep pressure on Manchester United and Chelsea in the race for this yea`r title. After losing 3-0 at home to the latter many thought the Gunners` hopes of winning the league had already faded but they have worked their way back into the reckoning and could not have asked for a better opportunity, with their opponents third from bottom in the table having recently dismissed their manager, replacing him with former player Owen Coyle.
The hosts are, as expected, favourites for the match at 2/9 (bet £20 to win £90 profit), leaving Bolton as underdogs at 15/1. Arsenal have been in good form having won seven of their last eight in all competitions. Bolton, by contrast, have only one win in their last ten games. The draw is available at 13/2 and could be interesting as Bolton have drawn four of their last seven games.
The bookmakers have made a 2-0 win for Arsenal the most likely result for the game at 11/2, ahead of 1-0 at 13/2 and 3-0 at 7/1. A 1-1 draw is available at 16/1 and 0-0 is 18/1. A shock 1-0 win for Bolton is as long as 35/1. Last time the teams met was in Bolton and Arsenal came away with a 2-0 win.
Brazilian-born Croat Eduardo is favourite to open the scoring tonight at 9/2, ahead of Russian team-mate Andrei Arshavin at 5/1. Captain Cesc Frabregas, who is on tremendous form this year and who scored first on Sunday, is at 13/2 to do the honours again tonight. Bolton`s best hope of opening the scoring tonight is seen as Ivan Klasnic, priced at 12/1.
Arsenal are 8/13 to lead at both half-time and full-time tonight and are 7/2 to win after drawing at half-time. The bookmakers offer 12/1 that both halves end with the scores level and 40/1 that Bolton snatch a win after drawing at the interval. Bolton to lead at half-time and full-time is available at 35/1.
Arsene Wenger`s side have fought their way back into the title race and are now as short as 4/1 for a surprise triumph this year. Bolton are in dire straights and the best they can hope for this season is to avoid relegation. The bookmakers seem to think they can achieve it and offer 2/9 that Bolton beat the drop.
