Chelsea welcome Manchester United today in the biggest match of the Premiership so far. United are currently in second place in the league, two points behind Chelsea, so a win will see the champions leap frog the leaders.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have been in superlative form recently, having scored 19 goals in their last five matches. They drew 2-2 with Atletico midweek, with Sergio Aguero and Didier Drogba scoring two goals apiece, but prior to that they had scored 17 goals without reply in four games. Chelsea have also won every game played at Stamford Bridge this season.
United also drew midweek, coming back from 3-1 down against CSKA Moscow salvage a point. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have defensive injury problems, with first choice centre-back pairing Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic both likely to miss out. Instead, Jonny Evans and Wes Brown have the unenviable task of trying to contain the marauding Didier Drogba.
The Blues’ home advantage means that they are favourites for the match at 11/10 (bet £100 to make £110 profit), whilst Man Utd are at 3/1. The draw is priced at 9/4.
Ivorian striker Drogba is favourite to open the scoring at 6/1, followed by strike partner Nicolas Anelka at 7/1. New father Wayne Rooney follows, also at 7/1, ahead of Frank Lampard at 8/1. Saloman Kalou, Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov are all at 9/1.
The bookmakers predict a close game with a 1-1 draw the favourite result at 11/2. A 1-0 Chelsea win is at 7/1, and a 2-1 or 2-0 win is at 17/2. A goalless draw is at 9/1 as is a 1-0 win for United. A 2-1 win for the Red Devils is at 14/1, with a 2-2 draw at 16/1.
Chelsea are 11/4 to be winning at half time and full time and draw / draw is at 4/1. Draw / Chelsea is also at 4/1, with United / United at 7/1. Draw / United is at 15/2.
The two teams are the two favourites to lift the title, with United coming in at 9/4, behind Chelsea at 6/5.
