Premier League: West Brom vs Manchester United betting preview
By Matt Knowles on 2011-08-13 18:00:00
The defence of Manchester United's title begins with a trip to West Brom on Sunday and bookmakers believe the Champions should get off to the right start, making Sir Alex Ferguson's side favourites for the match at 4/7 with Pinnacle Sports. West Brom are 6/1 with most bookmakers to spring a shock upset, with the draw at 10/3 with Betfred and Pinnacle Sports.
United are almost full-strength, with the exception of Javier Hernandez, and go into the game on the back of a thrilling and moral-boosting win over rivals Manchester City in last weekend's Community Shield. West Brom are also in fairly good shape in terms of injury but are not in particularly good form after winning just two of what should have been fairly untaxing pre-season fixtures.
A 1-0 win for Manchester United has been made the favourite score for the match at 13/2 with most bookmakers, with 2-0 at 15/2 on Betfair. Betfair also has the best odds on a 1-1 draw and a 0-0 draw, at 17/2 and 15/1 respectively. A shock 1-0 win for the hosts is as long as 18/1 with Coral.
In the absence of Hernandez, Wayne Rooney is favourite to score the game's first goal at 9/2 with Coral. The same firm offer 6/1 on Dimitar Berbatov, who was joint top-scorer in the league last season. Nani is 17/2 with Victor Chandler to follow his brace last week with the first goal on Sunday, while West Brom's Peter Odemwingie is 9/2 with Bet365 and Ladbrokes.
United are 7/5 on Betfair to lead at both half-time and full-time and 4/1 on the exchange to win the match after drawing at half-time. Victor Chandler go 6/1 that both halves are drawn, with West Brom/West Brom at 14/1 with Boylesports and draw/West Brom at 16/1 with the same firm.
Boomakers believe Manchester United can retain their title and make the Red Devils favourites for the Premier League this season at 13/8. West Brom are outside relegation candidates and are just 6/1 on Betfair for the drop.
