Premier League: Manchester United v Newcastle United Odds and Betting Preview

MANCHESTER, UK – Manchester United will bid to put their disappointing midweek draw in Europe behind them when they host Newcastle at Old Trafford, on Saturday afternoon. The Premier League Champions cannot afford any more slip-ups as their noisy neighbours continue to dominate the domestic headlines this season. Newcastle travel to Manchester for the second week running and despite last week’s loss remain the surprise package this season.
Manchester United are the 2/5 favourites (bet£5 to make £2 profit) with Paddy Power to win their fourth league game in succession. Newcastle look a generous 9/1 at Stan James to bounce back from their first defeat of the season last weekend whilst the draw is priced up at 4/1 with Coral and Ladbrokes.
Manchester United have not look their imperious best in recent weeks but have managed to grid out victories in the league keeping them within touching distance of early leaders Manchester City. They have the chance to narrow the gap to only two points with another win at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ on Saturday as their cross-city rivals don’t play until Sunday. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have won thirteen and lost none of the past seventeen league meetings between the two sides and following their disappointment with a 2-2 draw against Benfica on Tuesday evening they will be focussed on collecting three more points.
Newcastle have enjoyed an outstanding start to their current campaign but succumbed to their first defeat last weekend in Manchester against a rampant Manchester City side. Alan Pardew’s men will face another examination at the home of the Champions and he will hope they perform better on this occasion. The Magpies have been very strong defensively this season and if they can keep this up United will have to be at their best to break them down. This is their second game in a run of three that will test their top-six credentials as they face Chelsea next weekend and the Toon Army will hope that they can return to the North East with some points on Saturday evening. Newcastle have only scored two goals in their last seven visits to Old Trafford and failed on five of those occasions to find the back of the net, so face an uphill task here.
In the Over/Under market, over 2.5 goals is 7/10 with bet365 whilst under the same 2.5 goal margin is 6/5 at Skybet. For any punters who believe the game will be settled by a single strike can back under 1.5 goals at 10/3 with Ladbrokes.
Bettors, in search of addition value, on a United win may want to consider the Half-time/Full-time market where Manchester United can be backed at even money with Paddy power to lead at the end of both halves. Draw/Manchester United is 7/2 with Betfred whilst a Newcastle/Manchester United double result is 28/1 with Blue Square, but United have only once trailed their opposition, at the interval in the league this year. Newcastle are quoted at 18/1 with Boylesports to be in front at both the half-time and full-time whistles whilst Draw/Draw is 15/2 with Coral for those predicting that nothing will separate the sides.
In the Correct Score betting a 2-0 victory for the hosts is 11/2 with bet365 whilst the same firm have priced Manchester United up at 11/2 to record their fourth consecutive 1-0 victory in the Premier League. betinternet quote 8/1 on Manchester United running out 2-1 winners and a 1-1 stalemate is a best price of 17/2 with Victor Chandler and William Hill. United are Newcastle are a massive 20/1 with Stan James to win by a single goal to nil and return to winning ways at their first opportunity.
Wayne Rooney has passed a fitness test on his hip injury and looks set to start and been installed at the head of the First Goalscorer market at 7/2 with Paddy Power and bet365. Javier Hernandez is also available at this 7/2 price with bet365 and he has netted five goals in his eleven appearances this season. Dimitar Berbatov may be relegated to the bench if Rooney is preferred and the Bulgarian is 5/1 to score first, following his goal in midweek. He has an impressive record of two in two against Newcastle for the Red Devils. The most prominent player for Newcastle in this market is Demba Ba who is a general 9/1 shot to score the game’s opening goal. He has been in superb form this season scoring eight goals this season helping Newcastle to their lofty position in the table.
This match kicks off at 15.00 on Saturday 25th November.
