Premier League: Wigan Athletic v Arsenal Odds and Betting Preview

WIGAN, UK – Arsenal travel to the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon to face Wigan as they bid to get back to winning ways following two poor results. The Gunners were dumped out of the Carling Cup in the quarter-final and manager Arsene Wenger will hope his side can quickly bounce back with victory in the Premier League. Wigan are hopeful of recording their first back-to-back win of the season having ended their nine game winless run with victory over Sunderland, a result that cost the Sunderland manager his job.
Arsenal are the 8/13 favourites to collect the three points from their trip to Lancashire whilst the hosts, Wigan, can be backed at a standout 11/2 with Betfred. The draw is on offer at 10/3 with Victor Chandler and Arsenal have won three and drawn two from their last six trips to the DW Stadium.
Arsenal were unlucky to get dumped out of the Carling Cup in midweek having had a number of decent chances all saved by the Romanian goalkeeper, Costel Pantilimon who had an outstanding performance between the uprights. Their talismanic striker, Robin van Persie will return to lead the line and if his reaction to his teammates’ efforts with the goal at their mercy on Tuesday evening was anything to go by he will be fired up and raring to get back on the pitch.
Wigan currently languish near the foot of the table in 19th position and have scrapped their way to four points from their last two games. They managed to record a 2-1 victory away at Sunderland last weekend which should give the side confidence and momentum and this will be a tough examination of the character playing against a side who will dominate possession of the ball. Roberto Martinez has a near full-strength squad to choose from with Chris Kirkland the only player sidelined by injury.
In the Over/Under betting, over 2.5 goals is 7/10 at bet365 whilst under the same 2.5 goal margin can be backed at a standout 5/4 with Stan James. For any punters who predict that Arsenal will hit top gear and slice through a weak Wigan defence can take the 7/4 on offer at William Hill for over 3.5 goals in the game.
Arsenal are 6/4 with Boylesports to lead at both the half-time and full-time whistles whilst Draw/Arsenal is 7/2 with Ladbrokes and Paddy Power. A draw at both the interval and at the end of the game is 11/2 at betinternet whilst a Wigan/Wigan double result is as long as 12/1 with Boylesports in this popular betting market.
A 1-0 victory for the visitors is 7/1 with bet365 and the same firms offer that price on Arsenal to win by two goals to nil. A one-all stalemate is 15/2 at William Hill whilst betinternet quote 8/1 on a 2-1 Arsenal victory. Wigan are a massive 18/1 to win the game by a single goal to nil and 20/1 to come away with a 2-1 home victory in this Correct Score market.
Robin van Persie has been installed as the 3/1 favourite to open the scoring on Saturday afternoon. He has scored for goals for Arsenal in his last two away games and managed to bag a hat-trick on his last visit to the DW Stadium. He is in seemingly unstoppable form of late and is key to Arsenal’s chances of finishing in the top four come the end of the season. Gervinho is 7/1 with Ladbrokes with Chu-Young Park as Wenger has many options available as potential partners to his superstar. The most prominent player for the hosts in this market is the Colombian, Hugo Rodallega, who is quoted at odds of 10/1 with Paddy Power to score the game’s opening goal.
This match kicks of a 15.00 GMT on Saturday 4th December.
