UEFA Europa League: Trabzonspor v PSV Eindhoven Odds and Betting Preview
By Tristan Wootton on 2012-02-16 15:52:36
TRABZON, TURKEY - In-form Trabzonspor take on Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in their Round of 32 match at the Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadyumu tonight. The winners over the two ties will go on to play either Stoke or Valencia in the next round of the UEFA Europa League.
Bookmakers have chalked up PSV Eindhoven as the favourites to win the match, despite having to play away from home. PSV can be backed at best odds of 17/10 (bet 10€ to make 17€ profit) with Bet Victor, whilst a draw is on offer at 23/10 with Sky Bet and Paddy Power. There has been a slight move for the hosts in the betting today, and the Turkish side are into 7/4 from 9/5 with Coral.
Trabzonspor are currently fourth in their domestic league, but they have had a bright start to 2012, winning eight of their 10 matches in all competitions. The Claret Blues are coached by Şenol Güneş and created a huge shock in the Champions League this season when beating Inter Milan at the San Siro on Matchday One, although it has to be remembered that Inter were in shocking form at the time and that the Turks failed to win in their next five games. However four draws was enough to get them third spot in the group ahead of French champions Lille and fans of Trabzonspor can be encouraged that PSV’s record when playing in Turkey reads: W1 D1 L5.
PSV are also in flying form, and at the moment they are top of the Dutch League on goal difference ahead of AZ Alkmaar. Fred Rutten’s side warmed up for the trip to Turkey with a 4-1 win over bottom side De Graafschap, with star striker Ola Toivonen grabbing the second of the goals. The Swede has scored six goals in 24 Europa League appearances, and he certainly looks the one who could provide the visitors with a crucial away goal tonight in Trabzon. The two sides last met in a friendly back in 2004, where the match finished in a 2-2 draw, but PSV went on to win the penalty shootout.
A 1-1 stalemate in the favoured scoreline according to the bookies, and is priced up at 6/1 with Coral and William Hill. 1-0 to PSV comes next at 17/2 with Coral, who also offer the same odds on the hosts winning by a goal to nil. 2-0 and 2-1 wins for PSV would put them in great shape going into the return leg in Holland, and those scorelines can be backed at 12/1 and 9/1 respectively with Sky Bet. 2-0 to Trabzonspor would be a shock at 14/1 with Blue Square, whilst a repeat of the 2-2 draw is 14/1 with high-street bookmaker Ladbrokes.
Toivonen looks a fair bet to open the scoring tonight, and is 6/1 with bet365 in the first goalscorer betting. He has been banging in goals consistently for PSV, and looks better value than Burak Yılmaz at 5/1 with the same firm, as he has never scored in a UEFA competition, despite playing 23 European games. Dutch striker Jeremain Lens is 8/1 with bet365 to score first for PSV, but his fans may want to just double check that he is in the starting XI. No Goalscorer has been trimmed into 10/1 by Sky Bet, whilst at bigger prices defender Jetro Willems has been attracting bits and pieces of money at 40/1, and according to recent reports the 17-year-old is on Manchester United’s radar.
It is 4/9 with Blue Square that PSV qualify from the tie, and it is hard to argue with the price considering that the Dutch side have won their last three away games in Europe. PSV can also be backed at 10/3 with Coral to lead at both half-time and full-time in Turkey.
The match kicks-off at 10.05pm local time on Thursday 16 February, which is 8.05pm in the UK.
