Wimbledon 2010: Men`s Singles Title Betting Preview

WIMBLEDON, UK - Roger Federer was sensationally beaten by Lleyton Hewitt at Halle earlier this month, but the Swiss ace is still a hot favourite with the bookmakers to win his sixth Wimbledon title. The best price available on the high street this morning about another Federer triumph at SW19 is 11/8 (bet £80 to win £110 profit) with William Hill and Ladbrokes.
Federer managed to beat Andy Murray in this year`s Australian Open final, but both his fans and his backers have been let down since. He won the Gerry Weber Open four times between 2003 and 2006, and in each of those years he went on to Wimbledon glory. It may be that Federer was tired this time after his exertions in the French Open, where he was again at the scene of a betting upset - this time getting dumped out by Swedish player Robin Soderling.
The World No. 2 begins the defence of his title at 1pm today against Alejandro Falla on Centre Court. Falla has been ripped apart by Fed on each of the four occasions they have played, but even though another defeat looks on the cards today, Federer`s odds at Sporting Bet are hardly generous at 1/100.
The most reasonable alternative to Federer in the betting for the 2010 Wimbledon Men`s Title is his arch-rival, Rafa Nadal. Nadal was at his beastly best on the clay courts of Paris, where he did not drop a single set on the way to his fifth Roland Garros title. The 5/2 chance won his first Wimbledon title two years ago, but he only got as far as the quarter final stage in the AEGON Championships in his recent grass court preparation.
Nadal and Federer have met three times in Wimbledon finals before, and another tasty match-up between the two best tennis players in the world is 11/4 with Coral. It is 1/4 with the same bookmaker that both players do not make it to the final hurdle.
Plenty of British tennis punters will want to have a piece of Andy Murray at 8/1 with Blue Square, but others may feel that he will be no match for Federer, who seems to have Murray`s measure when they meet in Grand Slams.
Andy Roddick lost agonisingly in last year`s final to the tournament favourite, and the grass court specialist is 14/1 with William Hill to go one better this year. A-Rod only made it to the third round of the French Open, but he undoubtedly saves his best for the grass season. Stan James have him at 6/4 to serve more first round aces than John Isner.
Next in the betting is Robin Soderling at 20s, but Novak Djokovic makes slightly more appeal at 25/1. At bigger odds, Marin Čilić has attracted money at 50/1 - the same odds offered about Sam Querrey following up from his memorable win at Queen`s.
