By Harry Maude on 2010-01-20 20:27:02
Roger Federer takes on Romanian Victor Hanescu in his second round match tonight. Federer was not at his best in his first round tie with Igor Andreev, and the Russian took the first set from the World No. 1. Federer eventually prevailed 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0, and should face an easier time tonight against the World No. 47.
Federer is a huge favourite to win the match tonight, priced at 1/33 (bet $33 to make $1 profit), while Hanescu is at 16/1. In terms of set betting, the favourite result is a straight sets win for Federer, priced at 1/4. Federer is 11/2 to win 3-1, and 20/1 to win 3-2. According to the bookies, Hanescu`s best chance of a win is in five sets, priced at 60/1. He is priced at 75/1 to win 3-1 and 100/1 to win 3-0.
Hanescu has struggled against Federer in the past, not winning a single set in the three matches that the two have played. Their last meeting was in Estoril in 2008, where Federer won 6-3, 6-2. In addition Federer usually plays well against tall, big servers such as Hanescu. His head to head record against Karlovic, a similar player, is 9-1.
Federer, who is a three time champion here in Melbourne, is favourite to win the tournament, priced at 11/4. Rafael Nadal is second favourite at 7/2, followed by Andy Murray at 11/2, and Novak Djokovic at 7/1.
