ATP World Tour Finals betting - Andy Murray vs Fernando Verdasco
By Harry Maude on 2009-11-26 13:30:48
British no. 1 Andy Murray takes on Fernando Verdasco today, in a bid to secure his qualification to the semi finals of the season`s last event. Murray is currently equal in the group with US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro, but with the Argentine facing a tough match against World no. 1 Roger Federer, Murray will be confident of progression if he wins.
Rafael Nadal crashed out of the event last night, losing 6-1, 7-6, to Russian Nikolay Davydenko. If Davydenko wins against Sweden`s Robin Soderling tomorrow, then he could knock out pre-tournament favourite Novak Djokovic, who plays Nadal tomorrow.
Murray is a heavy favourite for his match against Verdasco, priced at 1/4. Verdasco is at 7/2 to win the match. Murray has a 7-1 head to head record against Verdasco, and their last meeting was in the Valencia Open, where Murray triumphed 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
Despite Verdasco losing his two opening matches, he troubled both Del Potro and Federer, and this match cannot be taken lightly by Murray. Verdasco took both matches to a third set, and both were very close. Both players won their opening set against Federer, but then went on to lose, with Murray`s first serve percentage at below 50% for the second and third sets.
Murray will be keen to get his serve back to the dominant level it was in the first set against Federer, and is priced at 3/4 to win this match in straight sets. He is 10/3 to win 2-1. Verdasco is 15/2 to win 2-0 and 8/1 to win 2-1.
Murray is now the 10/3 second favourite to win the tournament, with a potential rematch with Federer waiting in the final. Verdasco`s slim chance of qualification means that he is priced at 80/1 for the tournament.
