ATP World Tour Finals betting - Juan Martin Del Potro vs Fernando Verdasco
By Harry Maude on 2009-11-24 11:02:54
Today’s first match sees the two losers of the opening day play each other, with a win vital for both players to have any chance of advancing to the semi finals and competing for the $770,000 prize money.
US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro lost to Andy Murray in his opener, and faces a rematch of the US Open final against Roger Federer in his last match. Verdasco has already played Federer, where he won the first set in blistering form, but then slumped, allowing Federer to take the match 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Del Potro is favourite for the match, priced at 8/13 (bet £130 to make £80 profit), while Verdasco is at 11/8. The two have never played each other before.
Argentine Del Potro is 13/8 to win in straight sets, and 10/3 to win 2-1. Verdasco is 10/3 to win 2-0, and 9/2 to win 2-1.
Verdasco’s highlight of the year has been his fantastic run at the Australian Open in January. He reached the semi finals after beating Andy Murray and Joe Wilfried Tsonga, but lost in an epic five hour battle against Rafael Nadal. For most of the players this is the last event they play this year, but Verdasco, as well as compatriot Nadal, still has the Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic to compete in.
Neither of the two players are particularly fancied to win the tournament, with Del Potro at 25/1 and Verdasco at 80/1.
