The world’s top four players reunite, after not playing in the same tournament since the US Open in September. Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic come to the tournament, fresh off the back of victories in Valencia and Basel respectively. This is the last men’s event before the season ending World Tour Finals in London at the end of the month, and players will be competing here to have a chance of seizing the last two qualification spots.
Murray and Djokovic have already qualified, as well as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Juan Martin Del Potro and Andy Roddick, and two further places will be awarded to the seventh and eighth ranked players after this tournament. Nikolay Davydenko and Fernando Verdasco currently sit in these spots, but Robin Soderling, Fernando Gonzalez and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga could qualify if they make the final here.
Federer, who was beaten by Djokovic in the Basel final, is favourite to win the tournament at 5/2 (bet £20 to make £50 profit), followed by Murray at 9/2. Djokovic is next at 5/1, with Rafa Nadal coming in at 7/1. US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro is next at 12/1.
Nikolay Davydenko is next at 16/1, followed by defending champion Tsonga at 20/1. Robin Soderling is at 25/1, with Marin Cilic and Fernando Verdasco at 40/1.
For the romantic bettor, double grand-slam winner Marat Safin is playing in his last tournament ever, and is priced at 200/1. The Russian has won here twice, and will be looking to end with a bang.
Andy Murray plays American James Blake in his first match tomorrow, with the Briton 3/20 favourite for the match. Blake is priced at 13/2. The other top seeds have to wait for their opening match.
