ATP Buenos Aires Odds and Betting Preview - David Ferrer favourite for Copa Claro

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA - With the clay court season soon to get into full swing, some of the clay specialists have travelled a long way to take part in Argentina's Copa Claro this week. The ATP World Tour 250 Event has a decent roll call of winners, with David Nalbandian, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Carlos Moya all having won in recent year's. Last year's winner was Nicolas Almagro, and the Spaniard takes his chance again this year.
The favourite for the event is another Spaniard David Ferrer, who was the runner-up here in 2010. The World No. 5 will be at home on his favoured clay courts, and acquitted himself well at the Australian Open, where he made the quarter-finals before losing to the eventual champion Novak Djokovic. Despite losing that match in straight sets, he gave the Serb more of a match than the scoreline suggests. Prior to the Australian Open, Ferrer won the Heineken Open in New Zealand, and he will be gunning for a win here to get his clay season off to a good start. Ferrer is a best priced 13/8 with Paddy Power (bet £80 to make £130 profit).
Next in the betting is last year's champion Almagro, who is a 7/2 shot with Betfred to win here. Almagro has been much more active than Ferrer so far this year, having already played four tournaments, and comes here on a high, having won the Brasil Open last week. Another positive is that Almagro will already be completely re-acclimatised to playing on clay, so he should come through his opening matches fairly easily.
Argentine David Nalbandian was the winner here in 2008, and would love to win again in front of his home crowd. Nalbandian also played in Brazil, where he lost out to Filippo Volandri in the quarter finals, and he made the second round of the Australian Open, where he lost in five sets to American John Isner. Nalbandian is a 12/1 shot with Stan James to repeat his 2008 performance.
Juan Monaco is another clay court specialist, and is offered at 12/1 with Paddy Power. He lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Philipp Kohlschreiber, but followed that up with a win in the VTR Open in Chile. The World No. 22 has obvious chances here, but could face a tough clash against Ferrer in the semi-finals.
Next in the betting is the sixth seed Stanislas Wawrinka, who is a 14/1 chance with Paddy Power. Wawrinka lost out to Almagro in the Australian Open, but should be fine with the clay courts, and will be glad to be on the opposite side of the draw to Ferrer, although he could face a rematch with Almagro in the semis.
Fernando Verdasco is also on the opposite side of the draw to Ferrer, and is a 16/1 shot with Skybet. However, the Spaniard has not won a singles tournament since the clay season in 2010 which is a concern. He also seems more at home on hard courts. The 2010 winner Juan Carlos-Ferrero is at 18/1 with Skybet, but has not advanced past the first round in any tournament so far this year.
