Blackpool and Cardiff meet today at Wembley for the game that will determine whether their seasons will end in success or failure. The growing competitiveness of the Championship means that every team starts the season believing they can achieve promotion but both of today`s sides know that it`s not every year that they will come so close. As if the stakes were not high enough, Cardiff face a winding up order as they struggle to pay off huge debts.
The Bluebirds are favourites today at 4/3 (bet £30 to win £40 profit), leaving Blackpool as underdogs at 9/4, with the draw at 12/5. However, Blackpool appear to be the form side, with four wins in their last five and seven from their last nine, and will be very confident after their 4-3 win at Nottingham Forest last time out.
Cardiff have three wins in their last five matches and reached the semi-finals only on penalties after their 3-2 defeat at Leicester cancelled out their first-leg advantage.
A 1-1 draw is the favourite score for the game at 6/1, followed by a 1-0 Cardiff win at 7/1 and the same score in favour of Blackpool at 9/1. Also at 9/1 are 2-1 to Cardiff and 0-0, with 2-0 to the Welsh side 11/1 with Betinternet.
There will be no shortage of talented strikers today but Cardiff`s Jay Bothroyd and Michael Chopra have emerged as 6/1 joint-favourites to open the scoring, with Peter Wittingham, who hit twenty-two league goals this season, at 7/1 with Extrabet. For Blackpool, DJ Campbell is most likely at, at 17/2 with Bet365, followed by prolific midfielder Charlie Adam at 9/1.
Cardiff are 3/1 to lead today at both half-time and full-time and 5/1 with William Hill to win the match after drawing at the interval. The bookmakers offer 9/2 that both halves end in a draw and Blackpool/Blackpool is generally available at 9/2.
The Championship playoff final kicks off at 3pm UK time at Wembley Stadium in London.
