St James Park is the venue for tonight`s clash at the top of the Championship as Newcastle take on Nottingham Forest. The Magpies are one point ahead of West Brom at the top of the table with two games in hand, while Forest can move six points off second place and automatic promotion with a win tonight. Both teams are desperate to play Premiership football next season and Forest are looking for their second promotion in three years.
The hosts are favourites for the game at 7/10 (bet £10 to win £7 profit), leaving Forest as underdogs at 5/1 with Canbet. Newcastle are unbeaten in their last nine Championship games and have won six of these, while Forest have been woeful away from home, losing their last six games in a row. The draw is priced at 11/4 and Forest have the most away draws in the league, with nine from nineteen matches.
The bookmakers have made a 1-0 win for Newcastle the most likely score for tonight`s game, followed by a 1-1 draw at 13/2 with Skybet and 2-0 to the hosts at 7/1, with 0-0 available at 11/1. The sides met in October for the first time in ten years and Forest came away with a 1-0 win through a Dexter Blackstock goal at the very end of the first half. A repeat of that scoreline today is priced at 12/1 with Paddy Power.
Newcastle striker Andy Carroll has been made favourite to open the scoring tonight at 9/2, followed by his team-mates Shola Ameobi and Peter Lovenkrands 5/1, with the trio having scored fourteen, seven and eleven goals this season respectively. For Forest, Rob Earnshaw is the best hope of breaking the deadlock, available at 8/1 with Coral.
Stan James offer 7/4 that Newcastle lead tonight at both half-time and full-time and 10/3 Â is generally available for Newcastle to win the match after drawing at half-time. The bookmakers offer 5/1 that both halves end in a draw and Forest are 10/1 with Boylesports to be winning at both the interval and the final whistle. Draw/Forest is priced at 12/1.
Tonight`s hosts have one hand on the Championship title already and the bookmakers make them very short favourites at 1/6 to see out the season. Forest are too far behind to challenge for fist place but are on offer at 9/4 with Coral for promotion.
