By Jack Howard on 2012-02-21 08:17:03
LONDON, UK – Millwall host Middlesbrough this evening in their eagerly anticipated Championship clash at The Den. The home side are currently 20th in the Championship table - well behind eighth placed Middlesbrough - but nevertheless start today’s game as favourites to win at a market best of 6/4 (bet £4 to make £6 profit) with BetVictor. For those punters expecting an important away win for Middlesbrough, however, Tony Mowbray’s side are on offer at a top price of 21/10 with the same bookmakers, whilst the draw can be backed at 23/10 with Boylesports.
Millwall are currently three places and six points clear of the relegation zone, and are searching for their first win in their last five Championship outings. Manager Kenny Jackett knows that his side must improve swiftly if they are to avoid playing third tier football next season, and there would be no better way to start than with a win over Middlesbrough in this evening’s fixture. Millwall must battle on without the assistance of Tamika Mkandawire, however, who remains sidelined due to a knee injury. Middlesbrough have lost fewer games than any other club in the Championship, but have nonetheless slipped to eighth in the table. Mowbray will be searching for his second consecutive win in East London tonight.
In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored is 6/5 with Paddy Power, whilst under 2.5 goals is on offer at 8/13 with William Hill. For those punters who think that this game will end in a defensive stalemate, however, with the two sides cancelling each other out defensively, under 0.5 goals can be backed at longer odds of 9/1 with Stan James.
Darius Henderson has been Millwall’s most threatening attacking player this season, and currently has an impressive sixteen goals to his name in all competitions. Unsurprisingly Henderson starts tonight’s fixture as the favourite to be the first name on the score sheet, and can currently be backed at a market best of 11/2 with Bet Victor. Middlesbrough’s most threatening attacking players, on the other hand, are thought to be Dutch forward Marvin Emnes and his English team mate Lukas Jutkiewicz, both of whom are on offer to break the deadlock at 13/2 with Skybet.
Millwall are quoted at best odds of 10/3 with Ladbrokes to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Millwall is on offer at 9/2 with Coral. Draw/Middlesbrough, on the other hand, is available at 11/2 with Skybet, whilst those punters who think that the away side will fight back to win the match after trailing at half time can back Millwall/Middlesbrough at longer odds of 40/1 with Coral.
Kick Off is at 19.45 GMT
