The Championship: Barnsley v Birmingham Odds and Betting Preview
By Jack Howard on 2012-02-21 18:08:56
BARNSLEY, UK – Keith Hill’s Barnsley host Birmingham City this evening in their Championship clash at Oakwell Stadium. The away side are currently eight places clear of their opponents, and start this fixture as favourites to secure three points at a market best of 6/5 (bet £5 to make £6 profit) with Coral. For those punters anticipating a victory for Barnsley however, the home team are on offer at best odds of 14/5 with Bet Victor, whilst the draw can be backed at 12/5 with Boylesports.
Birmingham City are currently sixth in the Championship table and six points outside of the top two; manager Chris Hughton will have his sights set upon promotion to the top flight at the end of this season. Birmingham have clean sheets in their last three league outings, and will look to continue this defensive record this evening. The Blues must do without the help of skipper Stephen Carr, however, who remains sidelined due to injury. Barnsley have only beaten Birmingham once in their history – a 1-0 win in April 2007 – but Hill’s side will be determined to improve this unimpressive statistic in this upcoming match. The home side will be bolstered by recent signings Stephen Dawson and David Cotterill.
In the over/under betting the top price on over 2.5 goals being scored is 21/20 with Ladbrokes, whilst under 2.5 goals is on offer at 17/20 with Bet Victor. For those punters who think that this clash will produce a rare feast of goals, however, over 4.5 goals being scored can be backed at considerably longer odds of 13/2 with Unibet.
Marlon King has been Birmingham’s most threatening striker so far this season and currently has an impressive eleven goals to his name in all competitions. Unsurprisingly King starts today’s fixture as the favourite to be the first name on the score sheet, and can currently be backed at a top price of 11/2 with both Boylesports and Skybet. Nikola Zigic is also thought to pose a threat to the Barnsley defence, and is on offer to open the scoring at 6/1 with Bet365. Barnsley’s most dangerous striker, on the other hand, is deemed to be Craig Davies, who can be backed to break the deadlock at 15/2 with Bet Victor.
Birmingham are quoted at best odds of 13/5 with Blue Square to win the match after leading at half time, whilst draw/Birmingham is on offer at 9/2 with Bet365. Draw/Barnsley is available at 8/1 with Ladbrokes, whilst those punters who think that Barnsley will fight back to win the match after leading at half time can back Birmingham/Barnsley at odds as long as 40/1 with Boylesports.
Kick Off is at 19.45 GMT
