UEFA Champions League football betting - Lyon vs Bordeaux
By Matt Knowles on 2010-03-30 18:30:41
Lyon host Bordeaux tonight in the Champions League as the two remaining French teams in the competition look to advance to the semi-finals stage. Lyon eliminated heavily-fancied Real Madrid in the last round after securing a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu and will not be afraid of anyone. However, Bordeaux are currently top of the super-competitive French League, four places above Lyon despite being separated by only two points from their rivals.
The hosts are favourites for the game at 6/5 (bet £50 to win £60 profit), leaving Bordeaux as underdogs at 11/4. Neither team in particularly good for, with tonight`s visitors winning only twice in their last seven attempts in the league and Lyon managing only one more success. The draw is priced at 9/4 and Lyon have drawn the most games of any side in Ligue 1, recording nine in thirty matches.
The bookmakers have made a 1-1 draw the most likely score for the game at 11/2 as the team`s are quite evenly matched, but the next most likely outcome is a 1-0 win for Lyon at 6/1, followed by 0-0 at 7/1 and a more convincing 2-0 home win at 9/1. Bordeaux, however, have won the last two meetings between the sides 1-0 and a repeat of that score tonight is available at 8/1 with Canbet.
Portugese striker Lisandro has been made favourite to open the scoring tonight at 11/2. Lisandro has been in top form this season, scoring thirteen goals in twenty-five appearances and finding himself three goals behind Mamadou Niang in the race for the golden boot. Lisandro is followed by team-mates Bafetimbi Gomis, who is 13/2 with Skybet and Brazilian midfielder Michel Bastos, 9/1 with Coral. Bordeaux` s most likely route to scoring the first goal is through Marouane Chamakh at 7/1, with Coral offering 8/1 on Fernando Cavenaghi, despite the Argentinian`s poor return of just two goals this season.
Lyon are 11/4 to lead tonight at both half-time and full-time and 9/2 to win the match after drawing at half-time. The bookmakers offer 4/1 that both halves end in a draw and Bordeaux are 6/1 to be winning at both the interval and the final whistle. Draw/Bordeaux is available at 15/2 with Bet365.
Tonight`s teams are both seen as outsiders for the Champions League this season as they ply their trade in the French division, where there are fewer top players. However, one of them must make the semi-finals and the bookmakers seem to believe Lyon have the better chance of an unlikely triumph, offering 16/1 on tonight`s hosts, with Bodog going 22/1 on glory for Bordeaux.
