Bayern Munich host Manchester United tonight in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final tie. The hosts edged past Fiorentina in the last round, going through only on away goals, while United cruised by another Italian side AC Milan. Alex Ferguson`s side won 3-2 at the San Siro, their first victory at the ground, before romping to a 4-0 humiliation at Old Trafford. After beating Bolton 4-0 at the weekend they will definitely go into tonight`s game with confidence.
United are favourites for the game at 6/4 (bet £40 to win £60 profit), leaving Bayern as underdogs on their own soil at 21/10, with the draw at 23/10. United will be hard to stop, having won their last seven matches in all competitions, and their opponents are not in the strongest form after losing three of their last five, including a 2-1 defeat to Stuttgart at home last time out.
The bookmakers believe that home advantage for Bayern will make tonight`s game very close and have made a 1-1 draw the favourite score at 6/1, followed by a 1-0 win for United at 7/1 and 0-0 at 8/1. A 1-0 win for Bayern Munich, giving the German side something to defend at Old Trafford, is available at 15/2 with 2-0 to United at 12/1.
Wayne Rooney has been made favourite to open the scoring tonight at 9/2 after banging in an impressive thirty-three goals this season in all competitions, followed by Dimitar Berbatov, whose double on Saturday showed to be hitting format just the right time of year, at 7/1. For tonight`s hosts, the trio of Ivica Olic, Miroslav Klose and Mario Gomez are seen as the best chance of breaking the deadlock, all available at 8/1. Other big guns include former Chelsea and Real Madrid star Arjen Robben at 9/1 and the coveted France winger Frank Ribery at 10/1.
United are 7/2 to lead tonight at both half-time and full-time and 9/2 to win the match despite drawing at half-time. The bookmakers offer 4/1 that both halves end in a draw and Bayern Munich are 9/2 to be winning at both the interval and the final whistle. Draw/Bayern Munich is on offer at 6/1.
Sir Alex Ferguson`s side have seen some of their main rivals, such as Real Madrid and Chelsea, eliminated early from this year`s competition and have now been installed as second favourites to win the Champions League at 10/3, behind only Barcelona who are as short as 9/4 with Bodog. Bayern Munich are not given as strong a chance as their opponents tonight but are are definitely contenders at 12/1.
