UEFA Champions League football betting - Real Madrid vs Lyon

Real Madrid`s expensively-assembled squad will look to justify their remarkable price-tags tonight as the new Galacticos face Lyon in the Champions League. The four most expensive players in Madrid`s side alone cost £200 million this summer but the Spanish Giants are facing yet another humiliating exit at this stage of the competition. Manuel Pelligrini`s side have now gone top of La Liga but many believe the Chilean will need to deliver Europe`s most prestigious title to keep his job.
The hosts are favourites for the game at 1/3 (bet £30 to win £10 profit) with Betfred, leaving Lyon as big underdogs, available at 10/1 with Coral. Madrid have won every home match in La Liga this season, making this a very daunting task indeed for the visitors, but they can take heart from Milan`s 3-2 win there in October. Lyon can also hope their good record against Real holds up tonight, as they have not lost in five meetings, winning three. The last two times they have travelled to the Bernabeu the scores were 1-1 and 2-2, and another draw is available tonight at 9/2.
The bookmakers have made a 2-0 win for Real the favourite score for the match at 6/1, sightly ahead of 1-0 at 13/2 and 3-0 at 8/1. A 1-1 draw, which would see the hosts eliminated, is 10/1, with 0-0 at 16/1. A shock 1-0 win for Lyois available at 25/1 with Paddy Power.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been made favourite to open the scoring tonight at 10/3. The Portugese winger has been typically excellent this season, with fourteen goals in sixteen league matches. However, Gonzalo Higuain has also come into his own this year and the Argentine is 4/1 to add to his nineteen goals this season by hitting the opener tonight. Lisandro, signed from Porto this summer, is seen as Lyon`s best hope of scoring the fist goal of the match and Higuain`s compatriot is 11/1 with Paddy Power to do so.
Madrid are 5/6 to lead tonight at both half-time and full-time and 7/2 to win the match after drawing at half-time. The bookmakers offer 8/1 that both halves are drawn and 20/1 that Lyon are winning at both the interval and the final whistle. Draw/Lyon is slightly longer at 22/1.
Both sides could easily qualify from this tie but Madrid are seen as the better team and are fourth-favourites to win the tournament this year, the final of which is being played at the Bernabeu, at 6/1. Lyon are not given as much of a chance to lift the trophy, priced at 33/1.
