Real Madrid travel to the Stade Gerland tonight as they face Lyon in the  first Champions League knockout stage. Real enter the match on a high, having made up ground on La Liga rivals Barcelona, who lost this weekend. Real thrashed Xerex 3-0, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice, and are now only two points behind Barca.
Los Merengues came through a tough group to make it this far, overcoming Marseille and AC Milan. Lyon were part of the group which saw Liverpool eliminated, coming second to Fiorentina. They are also having a tough time in Ligue 1, and are currently fourth. They will want to resurrect their flagging season by going on a good run in Europe, but face tough opposition from Madrid.
Real are favourites for the game, best priced at 6/5 (bet $50 to make $60 profit) for the win with Ladbrokes. Lyon are 11/4 with Bet365, while the draw is at 12/5.
The favourite score for the game is a 1-1 draw, priced at 6/1, followed by a 1-0 Real win at 7/1. A goalless draw is next at 9/1, and a 2-1 win for Real is at the same price. A 2-0 win for the Spanish side is at 10/1, and a 1-0 for Lyon is at 11/1.
Real Madrid are priced at 11/4 to be winning at half time and full time, and the teams are 4/1 to be drawing at half time and full time. Draw / Real is also priced at 4/1, and Lyon / Lyon is at 6/1. Draw / Lyon is at 7/1, and Lyon / draw and Real / draw are both priced at 16/1.
Cristiano Ronaldo is favourite to open the scoring, priced at 9/2. Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain is next at 5/1, while Karim Benzema is at 6/1. Lisandro Lopez, who broke Liverpool`s hearts earlier in the season, is rated at 7/1 to score first. Raul is also at 7/1, and Bafetimbi Gomis is at 8/1. Kaka is priced at 9/1 to break the deadlock.
Despite the odds for this match being relatively close, Real are overwhelming favourites to qualify from the two-legged tie, priced at 3/10. Lyon are 10/3 with Betfair to qualify.
Real Madrid are the third favourites for the Champions League, priced at 11/2, after Barca at 3/1 and Chelsea at 9/2.
