UEFA Champions League Preview - Manchester United vs CSKA Moscow
By Matt Knowles on 2009-11-03 19:00:57
Last year`s runners-up and 2008 winners Manchester United welcome CSKA Moscow to Old Trafford tonight in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. The Premier League champions have been perfect in Europe so far, winning all three of their matches to top the group and winning four of their last five in all competitions. CSKA have not been as successful, winning only two of their last five and firing their manager, Juande Ramos, on the 26th Octber.
The hosts are favourites for the match at 2/5 (bet $50 to win $20 profit), leaving CSKA as big underdogs at 10/1. The draw is priced at 7/2 but the visitors have drawn only three matches of the thirty they have played this season in all competitions and their opponents have only drawn one of sixteen.
A comfortable 2-0 win for United has been made the favourite result for tonight`s match at 6/1. Available at the same price is a 1-0 home win and 2-1 is 17/2. 3-0 to the Red Devils is 9/1 and a goalless draw is 12/1. A 1-0 shock win for Moscow is priced at 25/1.
Wayne Rooney is favourite to open the scoring tonight, despite the birth of his first child making it uncertain if he will feature, at 7/2. Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov is next at 5/1, along with former Liverpool hero Michael Owen, who is yet to win over the Old Trafford fans. Guilherme is CSKA`s best chance of scoring the first goal. The on-loan Brazilian is at 12/1.
Machester United are Evens to be winning at both half-time and full-time tonight, and 7/2 to win after drawing at half-time. Draw/draw is 7/1 and CSKA/CSKA is 22/1. Draw/CSKA is 22/1. Manchester United to surrender a half-time lead and draw at full-time is priced at 28/1.
Alex Ferguson`s team are fourth favourites for the Champions League this year and are 7/1 to go one better than last year and lift the trophy in Milan come May. CSKA Moscow will now find it very difficult to even get out of their group, and have no realistic ambitions of winning the tournament any more. They are 5/2 to qualify for the next round.
