World Cup betting preview - Uruguay vs Ghana match odds
By Matt Knowles on 2010-07-02 16:30:42
Uruguay are favourites to beat Ghana today and advance to the semi-finals of the World Cup for the fifth time in their history but  the first time for 40 years. Their opponents, on the other hand, are looking to become the first African team to reach the last four of the competition and will enjoy the majority of the support inside the Soccer City Stadium.
The bookmakers seem to believe the task is too big for Ghana and have priced Uruguay at evens (bet £10 to win £10 profit), leaving the Africans as underdogs at 7/2 with bet365 and Victor Chandler.
Canbet are best price on a draw, offering 23/10, but for those who want to eliminate that result, Uruguay are 1/2 to go through to the next round, while Ghana are 7/4 with Betfred and Bluesquare.
The South Americans have looked good so far in the tournament, beating a strong Mexico side and earning a draw against an admittedly poor France despite being down to ten men.
Ghana started well themselves but their win over Serbia in their opening game was followed by a disappointing draw with Australia and defeat to Germany.
Uruguay are far more fancied than the Black Stars to lift the trophy this summer, with Boylesports offering 20/1 on the former and Victor Chandler going 50/1 on the latter.
