World Cup 2010: Holland v Brazil Correct Score Odds
By Tristan Wootton on 2010-07-02 11:35:01
PORT ELIZABETH, SOUTH AFRICA - This afternoon`s quarter-final between Brazil and Holland looks to be an entertaining one on paper, and despite their injury problems, Brazil are heavily favoured in the betting markets. However Holland are unbeaten in their last 23 matches, which suggests that they are not going to go down without a fight. In a match that could go either way, football bettors have the option to cash in on the first goalscorer and correct score markets.
When trying to predict the correct score in 90 minutes, you have to ask yourself: which way is this match going to swing and is it going to be a low or high goalscoring affair? The knee jerk reaction to any match involving Brazil is to back goals, but the way these two national sides have played to date suggests that it could be a tight and tense encounter.
Brazil`s defence has been uncharacteristically solid, which has earned them two successive clean sheets. Meanwhile the Flying Dutchmen have been highly consistent and fans will hope that Nigel de Jong and Mark van Bommel can tie down the attacking threats. In all likelihood Brazil are going to have to rely on counter attacks or moments of brilliance to create chances around Maarten Stekelenburg`s goalmouth.
With that in mind, pessimists can back a 0-0 draw at 8/1 (bet £10 to win £80 profit) with Boylesports, but a 1-1 stalemate is more likely according to Ladbrokes at 11/2. A 2-2 thriller is 20/1 with Sky Bet, but as short as 14/1 in other places.
The most likely result after 90 minutes is a 1-0 win to Brazil at 6/1 with Ladbrokes. Backers of the 1-0 may want to seek cover on the 2-0 win at 8/1, because if Holland find themselves pushing for a late equaliser, they could open up at the back.
Holland are not ruled out of this by any means, and their best chance of victory is a slender 1-0 at 10/1. 2-0 would be a shock for Betfair layers at 28/1, but 2-1 makes some appeal at 16/1 with Blue Square.
