Holland vs Brazil Betting - First Goalscorer Odds
By Matt Knowles on 2010-07-02 08:30:34
As Holland meet Brazil today in Port Elizabeth, some of the world`s finest players will be hoping to make an impact and be the difference between a World Cup semi-final and a long journey home. The bookmakers seem to think Luis Fabiano is the most likely player to get Brazil off to a good start, making him 9/2 (bet £20 to win £90 profit) favourite to open the scoring this afternoon.
Fabiano`s goalscoring record for both club and country cannot be argued with, and the Sevilla striker has hit 28 goals in 41 caps. He looks back to his best form after a season blighted by injury and is Brazil`s main goalscorer, leading the line as a lone forward.
Following Fabiano in the betting is Robinho, at 8/1 on Betfair. Since returning to Santos on loan, Robinho has rediscovered some of his best form, and has been a constant danger so far at the World Cup. He has only managed on goal but is getting into the right positions and it seems like it is only a matter of time until he adds to his current total.
At 9/1 on Betfair and 13/2 with Canbet, Robin van Persie is next, and the Arsenal man is the main goal threat for the Dutch. He has scored only once so far, however, and Brazil`s defence will be the toughest he has come up against. Van Persie is also rumoured to have fallen out with Wesley Sneijder, remarking as he was substituted that the Inter playmaker should have come off instead. Never one to give his best when in a bad mood, he may be best avoided today.
Sneijder himself is 12/1 with Paddy Power and bet365 to do the honours, but a better bet may be Arjen Robben, who opened the scoring against Slovakia in the last round. He is available at 10/1 with Sky Bet and is one of the most dangerous midfielders in South Africa this summer.
Another midfielder who knows how to score goals is Kaka, who takes penalties for his side and is 8/1 with most bookmakers to break the deadlock today. While yet to score in the competition, he has performed well and has a fairly impressive strike rate of 26 goals in 80 appearances for his country.
The match kicks off at 3 pm BST in Port Elizabeth.
