World Cup Golden Boot betting - Top Goalscorer Odds

As the World Cup knock-out stages begin to heat up, the race for the Golden Boot seems to get more and more interesting. Gonzalo Higuain and Robert Vittek currently lead the way, with four goals to their names, but Vittek`s team are now eliminated and three players are only one goal behind the front-runners.
Higuain is favourite to finish up as top goalscorer, at 5/2 with Bet365. His hat-trick against South Korea set him off in the right direction in this tournament and he added to his total after opening the scoring against Mexico in the last sixteen. After such as prolific season with Real Madrid, which saw him score 27 times in only 28 starts, it was always likely he would make a big impact here and he has done just that, despite his relative inexperience at international level.
Following Higuain in the betting is Spain`s David Villa, at 7/2 with Coral. He is only one goal behind the Argentine, having already missed a penalty at the World Cup, and as his sides main scoring outlet and penalty taker, he will be many people`s pick for the Golden Boot. Signed by Barcelona prior to the tournament after yet another excellent season at Valencia, Villa`s side have the talent to go a long way this summer and he looks well placed to add to his record of 41 goals in 61 caps for the European Champions.
Echoing Villa`s move to Barcelona is the potential signing of Sevilla and Brazil striker Luis Fabiano by Manchester United. Fabiano has scored goals throughout his career for both club and country and his goal against Chile in the first knock-out round sees him well-placed, on three goals and priced at 4/1 with Bodog and Bet365, to swoop for the Golden Boot. While Fabiano is not his team`s penalty taker, he is their main goalscoring threat and as they should go far enough that if he can stay fit, he will have chances.
Another on three goals is Uruguay`s Luis Suarez, whose 35 goals in 33 games for Ajaz was not bettered anywhere in Europe last season. He has proved so far in South Africa that he can step up to the highest level as well, and with his side facing one of the weaker sides still in the tournament, in the form of Ghana, in the next round, he may also improve on his current total and prove fair value at 15/1 on Betfair.
One of the more interesting outsiders is another Uruguayan, Diego Forlan. Forlan, of Atletico Madrid, has scored twice so far but could close in on the leaders with a good enough display against Ghana, and at odds of 25/1 he may attract those punters who feel the prices for market leaders are too short, given how closely grouped the current top scorers are.
