Germany suffered a shock defeat to Serbia in group B today, losing to 11/2 underdogs Serbia. The Germans were 4/6 to follow up their 4-0 win over Australia with another victory, while the draw was 14/5 with Totesport.
Coming into the game, Germany had been one of the only sides to really turn up, thrashing Australia 4-0 and putting in an excellent performance in the process.
Serbia, meanwhile, had looked tame in defeat to Ghana, and appeared to struggle at the altitude.
However, Miroslav Klose, who was 14/1 for the Golden Boot before kick-off and 9/2 favourite to open the scoring here, was sent off for two innocuous-looking fouls and the favourites, who had started brightly, were soon behind.
A missed German penalty later, the side who were as short as 7/1 in places to lift the trophy this summer had lost to nil, a defeat they were 6/4 with Paddy Power to inflict on their opponents.
