2010 World Cup Qualifier Betting - France vs Austria

France host Austria tonight in the final round of qualifiers for next year`s World Cup finals in South Africa. Neither team can advance their chances of qualifying tonight, France having secured a play-off place and Austria unable to finish in the top two. However, France will want to go into the play-offs on a high. Last weekend they beat the Faroe Islands 5-0, but before that they drew with Serbia and Romania and squeezed unconvincingly past the Faroe Islands 1-0.
The World Cup winners of 1998 are favourites for the match at 7/20 (bet $20 to win $7 profit). Austria, who have won three of their last five matches, are big underdogs at 10/1 and the draw is 4/1. Last time the two sides met was in September last year in Austria and the hosts came away with a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Janko, Aufhauser and Ivanschitz.
The favourite score for this match is 2-0 to France at 5/1, followed by 1-0 at 6/1. 3-0 is 8/1 and 2-1 is 9/1. A 0-0 draw is priced at 12/1 and 1-1 is 10/1. It is worth noting that three of the last six games involving these teams have finished 1-1. A 1-0 win for Austria is 22/1, and a repeat 3-1 win the visiting underdogs is deemed as unlikely as 200/1 by the bookies.
Andre-Pierre Gignac of France and Toulouse is favourite at 4/1 to open the scoring. He is in illustrious company, with Chelsea`s Nicholas Anelka, Real Madrid`s Karim Benzema and Barcelona`s Thierry Henry all following closely at 9/2. FC Red Bull striker Marc Janko, who scored first against France last September, is Austria`s opening the scoring in tonight`s game at 11/1.
France are 10/11 to be winning at half-time and full-time and 7/2 to win after drawing at half-time. Draw/draw is priced at 15/2 and the next most likely scenario is Austria/Austria. The visitors to snatch a draw after trailing at half-time is at 5/1 and France to win after Austria lead at half-time is 33/1.
France will be disappointed not to have won their group, as they have a very talented group of players, but are still among the favourites for the tournament despite having to go through the play-offs to even make it to South Africa. They are priced at 25/1, making them eighth favourites.
