X Factor Week Four Betting Odds: Why we feel Frankie Cocozza is safe from elimination
By Tristan Wootton on 2011-10-28 13:28:30
LONDON, UK - Frankie Cocozza is the strong favourite to leave the X Factor this weekend, but at Live Odds And Scores we feel that he will escape elimination once again.
Frankie had been one of the early favourites to win X Factor at around 10/1 during the auditions, but he is now the rank outsider in the outright betting at 100/1 with Paddy Power. It has hardly been plain sailing for his legion of fans, as her girlfriend Amelia Lily fell by the wayside after the first live shows and after he slipped into the bottom two the following week.
The 18-year-old was odds-on to leave last week with the bookies after another weak performance, but Kitty and Sami slipped into the bottom two. Sami left the show, and now Frankie is a strong favourite with Stan James and 5/4 to go in 'Halloween week'.
Here are five reasons why we feel that Frankie will stay in the competition:
1. Producers have already invested heavily in Frankie's 'brand'
Frankie received just as much camera attention in the auditions and boot camp stage of this year’s X Factor as competition favourite Janet Devlin. That the producers wanted the voting public (and ultimately paying public) to connect with Frankie and get to know him better, there is no doubt. Some pundits have speculated that they have gone on a full U-turn, showing him clubbing recklessly in central London on last weekend’s VT as well as sticking his middle finger up at the camera. Coupled with a weak performance in rock week, it was enough to send him to the top of the Week Three elimination betting, but ultimately his voters kept him safe.
Obviously he could get sent out first in the dreaded ‘graveyard slot’ this weekend, but there is not enough evidence to suggest they have given up on him just yet. Yes, he is the worst singer of an untalented bunch, but there is every chance that he could pull something out the bag on Saturday night.
2. Rhythmix are set to go sooner or later
Girl bands have a terrible record in the competition, yet Rhythmix have been described by mentor Tulisa as a ‘breath of fresh air’. In truth, they are awkward and do not always pull together vocally. They have been getting favourable comments from the judges, but sooner or later they will go, and the bookmakers know it, They are as big as 40/1 with Boylesports to win, and we feel that if they drop into the bottom two this weekend, it will be time for the girls to pack their bags. They could also suffer this weekend as they are to change their name after a charity that had already trademarked ‘Rhythmix’ complained, which could end up being fatal. At 6/1 with bwin, they look an attractive wager to go.
3. Frankie has a strong following on Twitter
Whereas Rhythmix have no identity or real following, Frankie has over 248,000 followers on Twitter to call upon. Yes, the followers are not all voting fans, but it is a good indication of his popularity. This comment on Facebook gives you some idea why he is popular:
Sorry but Johnny can't sing, Frankie is fit. But the best singers are The Risk. Misha is a diva and annoys me so much. Frankie or The Risk to win x.
4. Frankie may be wanted for the live tour in 2012
Only the final eight acts make it to the money-spinning X Factor Live Tour, which will take place next year. Frankie is guaranteed to draw bigger crowds than the likes of Craig or Rhythmix, so Simon Cowell may be plotting to keep him safe for a wee bit longer.
5. Kitty is failing to connect with the voting public
Most pundits expect Kitty to benefit from a sympathy 'bounce' this weekend after her emotional sing-off against Sami last weekend, but there is every chance that she will drop into the bottom two once more. For whatever reason the public are not connecting with Kitty, and she looks vulnerable at 9/2 with Sporting Bet, even if she will probabaly be hyped-up by mentor Louis Walsh. Kitty could be the one to go instead of Frankie, but it will be fascinating to see the running order of Saturday's show and what the producers have planned.
The X Factor resumes on Saturday 29 October at 8.00pm BST on ITV1.
